Mental rotation

The ability to imagine an object rotating in three dimensions — a classic spatial-reasoning task.

Mental rotation is interesting for aphantasia research because many people with aphantasia perform normally on rotation tasks despite reporting no visual imagery. Whatever is being done in rotation tasks is not the same thing as the vivid mental pictures other people describe.
